Abstract
HERNANDEZ JUAREZ, Saúl Iván. China Poblana in Tamaulipas. Photography as Representation of Political and Nationalist Discourses. Revista Col. San Luis [online]. 2021, vol.11, n.22, 00012. Epub Feb 16, 2024. ISSN 2007-8846. https://doi.org/10.21696/rcsl112220211267.
Based on a photograph of a girl dressed in China Poblana in the city of Tampico, Tamaulipas (Mexico), whose scenery is New York, the iconic Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building, the objective of the article is to disarticulate the elements that compose it from different analysis points. First, we will observe how and when it was produced; from what photographic tradition of the half of the 20th century was it made. Finally, to demonstrate the political, cultural, and international discourse in which it is immersed and how tradition contrasted capitalist modernity. It will be verified that photography is a historical document, a visual archive that provides new ways of interpreting traditional history.
Keywords : China poblana; photography; discourse; nationalism; post-revolution.
