Abstract
ESCOBEDO SAGAZ, José Luis and MANCILLAS SOLIS, Maricela. Life Expectations among Local Migrants and Resident University Students in Saltillo, Coahuila (Mexico). Revista Col. San Luis [online]. 2022, vol.12, n.23, 00025. Epub May 27, 2024. ISSN 2007-8846. https://doi.org/10.21696/rcsl122320221403.
The goal of the paper is to analyze the differences in life expectation of migrant students compared to those who are not. We consider that traditionally the man is mainly in charge of the productive-public share. For the analysis, we applied a survey in two public universities located in Saltillo, Coahuila. With this information, we construct an Index of Public-Productive Preferences, and we classify the results in two categories: gender and neighborhood. We find that the index shows a balance between preferences for activities, with a slight bias for traditional roles and a shift towards the private productive share as farther from the place of origin. The main limitation is to use the neighborhood as a criterion and traveling time is suggested. We conclude that gender and migration have effects on life expectation.
