Abstract

DUSSEL PETERS, Enrique. Small and Medium-Size Enterprise in Mexico: Conditions, Relevance in Economy, and Policy Challenges. Economía UNAM [online]. 2004, vol.1, n.2, pp.64-84. ISSN 1665-952X.

The author reviews the current conditions of SMEs, their performance, characteristics and relation to development policies. He lists changes in the reorientation of economic policy in relation to the previous strategies, stands out the significance of conceptual debate and economic policy regarding small and medium-size enterprises in several countries, particularly in ours, and compares the programs and instruments of Mexico to those of the United States. Dussel warns about the need of creating competitive macroeconomic conditions in order to boost growth, investment, and employment by means of the integration of the local and the national to the global market.
