This article studies the impact on economic growth of trade policy liberalization undertaken by Mexico in the mid-eighties. Such strategy is compared with trade and industrial policies recommended by international organizations like OECD and UNCTAD. The analysis underlines the restrictions caused by trade policy on economic growth.
