This article aims to analyze the U.S. government proposal of the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA) in the hemisphere for creating better conditions to deal with the transformation of the world economy. The intention is to evaluate whether an instrument like the FTAA can be an alternative proposal for integrating the hemisphere's economies, particularly those of Latin America.
