Abstract

BARBOSA, Fabio  and  DOMINGUEZ, Nicolás. Mexico's Oil Reserves and Potential. Economía UNAM [online]. 2006, vol.3, n.7, pp.79-102. ISSN 1665-952X.

An analysis of Mexico's current oil reserves and potential, this article deals with the revisions and re-classifications of oil reserves from 1996 to 1999 and in 2002 using the criteria and the methods of the World Petroleum Congress and the Securities and Exchange Commission. It also looks at the PEMEX Exploration and Production Business Plan. It covers different evaluations of the geological potential recently formulated by PEMEX, the U.S. Energy Department and other institutions wich are the basis for expectations of increasing production and exports, among them the very optimistic hope of producing 7 to 8 million barrels a day by 2016.
