Abstract

ALBERRO, José. Returns to Scale and Competition of Fuel Supply into Plane Rates. Economía UNAM [online]. 2008, vol.5, n.14, pp.56-69. ISSN 1665-952X.

This study evaluates the impact of competition and returns to scale in the determination of into plane rates. Due to the lack of public information on these rates, we compiled a database for 32 airports in the United States by direct communication with suppliers of the service. The information confirms the existence of increasing returns to scale, since tariffs are smaller at large airports and for large loads. Besides, we found that the competition diminishes rates costs, but that this effect is tempered by the increasing returns to scale. On the other hand, the study compares the composition as well as the level of the into plane rates charged by Aeropuertos y Servicios Auxiliares in México (ASA) to its American counterparts, showing that they are smaller.
