Abstract

ALMONTE, Leobardo de Jesús; CARBAJAL SUAREZ, Yolanda  and  VALVERDE VILCHIS, Cony. The manufacturing employment in the State of Mexico: estimation for division of economic activity, 1999-2008. Economía UNAM [online]. 2013, vol.10, n.29, pp.56-73. ISSN 1665-952X.

In the last decades, the results of the implementation of the implementation of economic policies allowed to identify that macroeconomic variables were controlled, but at the same time it showed a tendency of slow growth for the Mexican economy with structural problems to generate employment. This tendency supposes a relationship that permeates the regions more linked to the dynamics of the external sector. In this paper, a manufacturing employment equation is estimated for the Estado de México from 1999 to 2008 as a relationship of investment and wage productivity. The results suggest a displacement of the labor in the same sector in the sense that if an increase in the productivity reduces de levels of employment, it is done in an inelastic way, which supposes that the labor displacement is not an effect of absolute unemployment, but of the personnel reallocation in sectors with different productivity.

Keywords : manufacturing employment; productivity; Estado de Mexico.
