Abstract

GUTIERREZ-R., Roberto. Mexico 2016-2018: a new phase of inflationary disarray?. Economía UNAM [online]. 2019, vol.16, n.47, pp.41-65.  Epub June 30, 2020. ISSN 1665-952X.  https://doi.org/10.22201/fe.24488143e.2019.47.462.

The work’s two main objectives are, on the one hand, to demonstrate that the main generator of the prices inflationary process observed in the period 2016-2018 was the increase in the state-administrated energy prices. On the other hand, even if the government inaugurated on December the 1st. 2018 fulfills its promise that the increases in energy prices are to be limited by the evolution of inflation, there are factors intrinsic to this dynamics (interest rate, exchange rate, salaries, prices of goods and services offered by the government, inertial inflation) that combined to the return to a past conception of economic and social development, will continue to press the price level. Given the effect of the inflationary process on the low-income families, it is stressed the convenience of taking care of the way this redistributive policy is carried out.
