Abstract

PECH, Cynthia. Time and Destiny: The Fragility of Goodness in Los Olvidados. Andamios [online]. 2005, vol.2, n.3, pp.107-127. ISSN 2594-1917.

The idea of human excellence as inherent of everybody invites us to some ethical questions, when the concept of goodness, a basic element of excellence, turns out to be vulnerable by external influences. This article explore this situation in the film Los Olvidados (1950) by Luis Buñuel, inviting to think about the fragility of goodness in its historical context, and discusses the contradictions in the political discourse of former president Miguel Aleman: general welfare in contrast with poverty of mayor urban sectors.

Keywords : Film; city; discourse analysis; representation; Mexico City.
