Abstract

VEGA BARBOSA, Alma N.. Archeology and Interpretation from Gadamer’s hermeneutical philosophy. Andamios [online]. 2020, vol.17, n.43, pp.71-93.  Epub Sep 27, 2021. ISSN 2594-1917.  https://doi.org/10.29092/uacm.v17i43.765.

The interest of this paper is to reflect on how archaeological knowledge is constructed from a philosophical point of view and particularly to observe the interpretative task of archeology from Gadamer’s hermeneutical philosophy. The text brings together archeology and philosophy to foster a dialogue on the subject of interpretation and understanding, taking into account the overlapping linkage of archaeological evidence and the role of the archaeologist as an interpreter of the past. The article is also an example of an epistemological bridge between Archeology to the Philosophy of Science.

Keywords : Archeology; interpretation; understanding; hermeneutics; Gadamer.
