Punitive strategies of various States show deprivation of liberty as a central axia for citizen security. In a complementary way to enhance social inclusión Higher Education could be a key tool. This article reviews experiences in prisons in Spain, Ecuador and Mexico. The methodology is based on a comparative study together with analysis of secondary sources and consultation of specialized databases. Outcomes show a deficiency of resources for these programs; improvement of students in self-esteem, safety, communication, social skills and responsible citizenship; decrease in recidivism; and the requirement for actions for labor incorporation.
