Abstract

AVARO, Dante. The post truth. An introductory guide. Andamios [online]. 2021, vol.18, n.46, pp.117-142.  Epub Jan 17, 2022. ISSN 2594-1917.  https://doi.org/10.29092/uacm.v18i46.840.

In this paper, I explore under what specific circumstances post-truth undermines democratic legitimacy. First, I argue that post-truth and empirical truths coexist in a fragile epistemic balance. Second, I identify three situations from which post-truth can tip the balance to your advantage and thus dominate the public scene. Third, I point out that the loss of democratic legitimacy is greater when post-truth is associated with political conduct unconcerned by error.

Keywords : Democracy; post truth; episteme; expertise; authoritative decisions.
