Abstract
ATTILI, Antonella and SALAZAR, Luis. Horizons of a democracy on edge. Between transition to authoritarianism and the necessity of democratic conditions. Andamios [online]. 2022, vol.19, n.48, pp.279-306. Epub Oct 17, 2022. ISSN 2594-1917. https://doi.org/10.29092/uacm.v19i48.906.
In this paper we make a revision of the neopopulist phenomenon that combines a theoretical and a historical approach; our main objective is to offer arguments to enhance our understanding of neopopulism. We ponder whether the recent change in the Presidency of the U.S.A facilitates a return to democratic politics. To do this we recover the lessons of neopopulist politics left by former president Trump, and use these lessons to establish the defining elements in the development of anti-democratic political movements of populist origins, as well as the main problems they pose to the functioning of representative democracy.
