Abstract

ESTERMANN, Victoria  and  DEBIA, Eliana. Marianne Schnitger Weber and the early 20th century German feminism. Andamios [online]. 2023, vol.20, n.52, pp.133-157.  Epub Nov 17, 2023. ISSN 2594-1917.  https://doi.org/10.29092/uacm.v20i52.1001.

This article aims to rescue in an unprecedented way the contributions of an invisible thinker of classical sociology, Marianne Schnitger Weber (1870-1954), in order to rethink the discussions and demands of the so-called first wave of German feminism. Through Marianne Schnitger Weber’s writings, we argue that the issues that were being raised at that time went beyond demands for political rights and women’s suffrage, and that the feminist movements of that time were discussing the sexual division of labour, the double working labour, women’s formal access to education and the inclusion of their contributions to culture.

Keywords : Marianne Schnitger Weber; feminisms; domestic work; sexual division of labour; double working labour.
