Abstract
RODRIGUEZ-MELGOZA, Lauro et al. Prescription - Indication Study of Cefotaxime in the Internal Medicine Service of a General Hospital. Rev. mex. cienc. farm [online]. 2013, vol.44, n.2, pp.17-23. ISSN 1870-0195.
The aim of this study was to identify and evaluate the use of cefotaxime in the internal medicine service of a general hospital through a prescription-indication study . The evaluation of the use of cefotaxime was performed using four criteria: "selection", "absence of contraindication", "dosage" and "absence of interactions" according to Sanford Guideline 2009. The main reasons for indication of cefotaxime were 23.08% of respiratory tract infection, 29.5% with no specified reason for use. Only 3.49% was evaluated as appropriate use of cefotaxime. We identified 73 Drug Related Problems (DRP). It is important to conduct studies of drug use, make use of formularies and certainly the involvement of the pharmacist to make rational use of medicines.
