Abstract
SAMAYOA-SANDOVAL, Liliana and VILLAFUERTE-ROBLES, Leopoldo. Compactibility as a functionality parameter of the excipient GalenIQ 720. Rev. mex. cienc. farm [online]. 2013, vol.44, n.3, pp.34-45. ISSN 1870-0195.
Specific values of technological properties of excipients allow the establishment of statistical parameters and limits for their use. The purpose of the work is the evaluation of GalenIQ 720 as direct compression excipient. The excipient is evaluated individually and in mixtures with metronidazole and magnesium stearate, comparing against Helmcel 200. The assessed parameters include compactibility curves using the crushing strength and tensile strength. The compactibility of Helmcel 200 is 2-3 times higher than that of GalenIQ 720. However, GalenIQ 720 exhibits an increased compactibility in mixtures with a lubricant, against the known fall of compactibility of microcrystalline cellulose. The improvement of a drug characteristic by an excipient can be used as a parameter of functionality.
