Abstract

A qualitative research results are presented in this paper. The main aim of this study was knowing the meanings ands practices related to young-man condition. Twelve young men inhabitants of Mexico City were interviewed; they all have been coursed one year of high school at least. Nobody was member of a gang neither an urban tribe. Each interview was analyzed following the Kvale procedures. Results show that meaning of adulthood and man are closely related. On the other hand, youth is defined with absence of responsibilities and much fun. It was founded that interviewed young men execute practices closely related to hegemonic masculinity such as: being as fount of economical resources, auto named protector of women (relatives and girlfriends), and keeping distance to children and elders.
