Abstract

QUINTANA TEJERA, Luis María. The story in the border of the unusual: Enrique Vila-Matas. Culturales [online]. 2014, vol.2, n.2, pp.109-128. ISSN 2448-539X.

Enrique Vila-Matas (Barcelona, 1948) is a Catalan writer noted for the precision of his style and innovative proposals in the field of literary studies. We have chosen, to conduct this analysis, the book Chet Baker thinks about his art, selected stories (2011), in which the author offers novel concepts as to what that refers to the art of the novel and the short story. Primarily through the extensive story "Chet Baker thinks of his art". The Catalan, based on numerous intertextual contributions -Joyce and Simenon, among others-, offers a refreshing outlook in the context of literature that serves as a guide to the new generations to understand better the creative process. We selected the stories for this article "A house forever" and "The art of disappearing". Analyze them: issues, semantic scope, narrators, narrative voices, proposals and restless narrator searches that generated Vila-Matas. The article presents an introduction, because of the title, detailed analysis of each of the aforementioned reports, conclusions and bibliography.

Keywords : unusual; contemporary fiction; death; literary style.
