Abstract

GONZALEZ FLORES, José Gustavo. The reasons for the sinarquista: The organization and ideology of the National Union Synarchists. Culturales [online]. 2015, vol.3, n.1, pp.49-76. ISSN 2448-539X.

The National Synarchist Union (UNS) was born with a dual purpose: 1) follow the guidelines of the Rerum Novarum of Leo XIII, on the participation of Catholics in political, and 2) to face the onslaught secularizing the Mexican post-revolutionary government. This group brought together Catholic peasants and those who did not benefited from land distribution. Sinarquista ideology promoted Catholic values and attacked the main opponents of the Roman Church at global and national level such as communism, Protestant liberalism, revolution and its aftermath. Through the printed sinarquista doctrine and some oral testimonies of Michoacan sinarquistas, we conclude that the Church took its social basis for challenging the Mexican state without participating directly.

Keywords : Synarchism; Sinarquista National Union; Church; Catholic movements; Michoacán.
