BEATRIZ ALBERTO, Gisela et al. Odontological management in patients with chronic renal insufficiency: Case report. Rev. Odont. Mex [online]. 2009, vol.13, n.3, pp.171-176. ISSN 1870-199X. https://doi.org/10.22201/fo.1870199xp.2009.13.3.15583.
Renal Insufficiency is the incapability of the kidneys to excrete the products of waste of the organism, to concentrate urine and to preserve the electrolytes. The symptoms clinically presented are anemia, adynamia, fatigue, shortness of breath, anorexia, nutritional disorders, abnormalities of the metabolism, and of the homeostasis. Oral manifestations of renal insufficiency are dysgeusia, cacogeusia, halitosis, sialorrhea, candidiasis, enamel hypoplasia and low caries rate. A case of a 14-year-old female patient with diagnosis of renal chronic terminal insufficiency in protocol for renal transplant treated at the Hospital Infantil de México Federico Gómez (HIMFG) is presented. Previous consultations with the Department of Nefrology, it was decided to proceed with complete oral rehabilitation and also a strict preventive plan was initiated, including pit and fissure sealing, toothbrush technique, topical dental fluoride and checkups every 3 months. The participation of the Pediatric Dentistry in preparing patients submitted to dialysis and hemodialysis is very important.
