Abstract

FLORES MERCADO, Bertha Georgina. Research in Psychology, dialogues with political philosophy, ethics, and music. Polis [online]. 2008, vol.4, n.1, pp.145-162. ISSN 2594-0686.

This essay present's some reflections on the process of social research and the position to be occupied by psychologists, and Psychology as a scientific discipline, in relation to the community or group under study. Starting out from a dialogue with several political philosophy traditions it discusses the research-intervention process, as immersed in values, power relationships and world visions. Also it describes the possible ethical implications of the interventions of the psychologist as a researcher. Finally, it reflects on the scientific identity of Psychology and its obsession with distancing itself from popular thought and knowledge. In order to carry out this reflection, it establishes a dialogue with music as a field which has also created categories such as highbrow music and popular music, each one carrying a different social value. Through the parallelism with music, this essay questions the mono-logical identity of Psychology and proposes the recognition of its multiple, dialogical and polyphonic identity.

Keywords : psychology; research; intervention.
