The reaction of a number of aldehydes and ketones with 1,3-propanedithiol has been carried out in the absence of solvent, using microwave irradiation as the heat source. Under these conditions the corresponding 1,3-dithianes were obtained in short reaction times (5 min). In addition, a bentonitic clay was evaluated as promoter of this reaction.
