Abstract

ROJAS-CALDERON, Julieta  and  QUIROGA-GONZALEZ, Enrique. Metallurgical Grade Silicon as Electrode Material of Lithium Ion Batteries. J. Mex. Chem. Soc [online]. 2023, vol.67, n.4, pp.472-482.  Epub Apr 26, 2024. ISSN 1870-249X.  https://doi.org/10.29356/jmcs.v67i4.2043.

A study of the performance of metallurgical grade silicon as active material of electrodes of lithium ion batteries has been performed. The study has been carried out by means of charge and discharge galvanostatic measurements comparing between samples with different contents of impurities. This allows to elucidate the effect of the presence of certain impurities in the performance of the material in batteries. Unlike other existing works, this one has the particularity of showing specifically the concentration and type of impurities in the active material.

Keywords : Metallurgical grade silicon; battery performance; battery cycling tests; impurities.
