Two new species of Rubiaceae are described from Sierra de los Tuxtlas in southern Veracruz, Mexico: Arachnotrhyx pumae (Guettardeae) and Hoffmannia altipetens (Hamelieae). Hoffmannia altipetens is characterized by cystoliths on the leaf veins, inflorescences with 2 to 6 axis per node and white fruits.

Keywords : Arachnothryx pumae; Hoffmannia altipetens; Veracruz; Los Tuxtlas Biological Station; Mexico.
