Abstract

AYALA-PEREZ, Víctor; ARCE, Nallely  and  CARMONA, Roberto. Leucism observations in four species of waterbirds in Guerrero Negro, Baja California Sur, Mexico. Rev. Mex. Biodiv. [online]. 2014, vol.85, n.3, pp.982-986. ISSN 2007-8706.  https://doi.org/10.7550/rmb.36515.

We report the occurrence of plumage pigment aberrations in 4 species of waterbirds in Baja California Sur: Egretta rufescens, Larus occidentalis, Podiceps nigricollis, Puffinus opisthomelas. These observations represent the first leucistic records for these species for Mexico. The documentation of such cases can help to understand the impact of chromatic aberrations, and their variation between different groups of birds.

Keywords : plumage pigment aberrations; waterbirds; Egretta rufescens; Larus occidentalis; Podiceps nigricollis; Puffinus opisthomelas.
