Abstract
CAVIEDES, Verónica and CARRASCO, Juan Carlos. First record of Halophila baillonii meadows in Honduras. Rev. Mex. Biodiv. [online]. 2016, vol.87, n.1, pp.248-251. ISSN 2007-8706. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.rmb.2015.10.003.
Halophila baillonii Ascherson was found in the Chachaguala Lagoon, located in Cuyamel-Omoa National Park, Honduras, Central America, in 2013 and 2014. This observation extends the range of this seagrass species. Halophila baillonii was previously observed in Belize and other Caribbean areas, in the Pacific coast of Panama and Costa Rica. Halophila baillonii in the Chachaguala Lagoon forms extensive meadows with an estimated area of 7,000 m2, with 35 species of mollusks and 71 species of fish reported so far. These meadows can be affected by the lagoon's adjacent agriculture and the watercrafts moving through the area.
