Abstract
JIMENEZ-SANCHEZ, Alfredo; SANCHEZ-NAVA, Petra; RODRIGUEZ-ROMERO, Felipe de Jesús and FLORES-NAVA, Belem. Monogeneans of Astyanax aeneus (Characidae) and Oreochromis niloticus (Cichlidae) from Ixtapan River basin, Mexico. Rev. Mex. Biodiv. [online]. 2019, vol.90, e902750. Epub Mar 04, 2019. ISSN 2007-8706. https://doi.org/10.22201/ib.20078706e.2019.90.2750.
In this study, the gill monogeneans of 136 fish belonging to 2 species (Astyanax aeneus and Oreochromis niloticus) in 7 localities from Ixtapan River basin, Mexico were registered. Nine species of monogeneans were determinated, which represent new records for Estado de México and Guerrero. The characid A. aeneus had 5 monogenean species (Anacanthocotyle anacanthocotyle, Characithecium costaricensis, Diaphorocleidus kabatai, Palombitrema heteroancistrium and Urocleidoides strombicirrus) and the Nile tilapia O. niloticus harbored 4 species (Cichlidogyrus sclerosus, Cichlidogyrus thurstonae, Cichlidogyrus tilapiae and Scutogyrus longicornis). The monogeneans C. thurstonae and S. longicornis are reported by the first time in México in a wild invasive population of O. niloticus. The monogeneans with more distribution along the Ixtapan River were: D. kabatai and C. costaricensis in A. aeneus, and C. tilapiae in O. niloticus. The prevalence and mean intensity of all monogenean species were in general lower in Ixtapan River than those registered in other hidrological basins of Mexico.
