Abstract

GAMA-KWICK, Nicole; AGUILAR-ESTRADA, Luis Gabriel; QUIROZ-GONZALEZ, Nataly  and  RUIZ-BOIJSEAUNEAU, Ivette. New records of gastropods (Mollusca) associated with intertidal macroalgae from Guerrero, Mexico. Rev. Mex. Biodiv. [online]. 2021, vol.92, e923441.  Epub May 09, 2022. ISSN 2007-8706.  https://doi.org/10.22201/ib.20078706e.2021.92.3441.

The coast of Guerrero presents an intertidal zone that is very heterogeneous, with growths of macroalgae that host a large number of invertebrates. The site with the highest number of studies is Acapulco. However, the north of the state has been less studied regarding algae-mollusk relationships. The present study expands the knowledge about the richness of gastropods in Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo. Gastropods associated with macroalgal assemblages were collected at 3 locations in Guerrero at different tidal levels; specimens were determined based on their conchological characteristics using specialized literature. Twelve new records were obtained for the state and Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo, of these, 7 are new records for the tropical Mexican Pacific. The gastropod species richness for Guerrero increases from 448 to 460.

Keywords : Malacofauna; Tropical Mexican Pacific; Species richness; Rocky intertidal zone.
