Abstract

The influence of the elements of geodiversity on vegetation has been poorly analyzed in the Mixteca Alta region. Therefore, the objective of the present study was to determine the elements of geodiversity that influence the characteristics of woody vegetation at the landscape scale in the Mixteca Alta UNESCO World Geopark. To this end, we used 70 sampling sites of 500 m2 distributed in three different vegetation types (oak forest, pine-oak forest, and xeric shrubland). All trees and shrubs > 1 m in height were inventoried in each site. We recorded ninety- two woody species, including 62 shrubs, 28 trees, and one palm species of the genus Brahea. The results showed a close association between vegetation types and species with various elements of geodiversity, mainly temperature, precipitation, altitude, and anthropic disturbance factors. On the other hand, the floristic composition is dominated by generalist species (70%), which suggests a secondary successional stage and an anthropized environment. Knowledge of the elements of geodiversity influencing woody vegetation in the geopark and its associated species is suitable for use in the design and implementation of conservation and restoration projects.
