Abstract

VEGA BRIONES, Germán  and  ILESCAS VELA, Virginia. Some Characteristics of Migrants Returned by the Border Patrol. Norteamérica [online]. 2009, vol.4, n.1, pp.121-160. ISSN 2448-7228.

This article’s central aim is to determine the demographical characteristics and point to some of the social factors in the lives of migrants deported by the U.S. Border Patrol. Based on information gleaned from the National Survey on Migration on Mexico’s Northern Border (EMIF), the article looks at people of Mexican origin over 12 years of age who were able to cross the border into the United States to work or look for work and who were detained and transferred to certain places in the country (mainly border cities), where they were interviewed in a sampling. Basically, the article explores the questions referring to the demographic and social profile of personas returned by the Border Patrol. It is important to take into account that the persons interviewed are represented as of the number of events that took place, which means that the instrument may include more than one deportation of the same individuals. But even so, the intensity of the flow reflects the dynamic in the space-temporal coordinates of the EMIF’s phases and points of sampling.

Keywords : Migración; demografía; migrantes devueltos; Patrulla Fronteriza; Encuesta sobre Migración de la Frontera Norte.
