Abstract

This article analyzes the role of moving to the United States among Argentinean researchers in the exact and natural sciences and its implications for becoming a career researcher with Argentina's main research council. The authors present quantitative indicators and analyze data from 40 semi-structured interviews about subjective meaning and the steps taken in individual careers. Finally, they cover the recent evolution of academic job markets in the United States and Europe, as well as the structure of incentives and job opportunities in the Argentinean academic market.
