Abstract
VEREA, Monica. Biden's Migratory Policy One Year into His Administration. Norteamérica [online]. 2022, vol.17, n.1, pp.265-291. Epub Nov 22, 2022. ISSN 2448-7228. https://doi.org/10.22201/cisan.24487228e.2022.1.562.
This essay assesses President Joe Biden's immigration policy. The author analyzes both the proposals in the media about migration during his campaign and the results of academic research. She underlines the actions and policies adopted one year into the Biden administration to "de-Trumpize" anti-migrant policies, as well as the promises as yet unfulfilled. She also analyzes the bilateral migratory agreements between Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) and Donald Trump/Biden, particularly with regard to the political and economic costs for Mexico. She recognizes that constructive steps have been taken, but that they are not very visible and that promises are still left to be fulfilled. Her conclusion is that, while bills have been raised in Congress, the possibility of a comprehensive immigration reform seems to be increasingly distant.
