Abstract

TORRE CANTALAPIEDRA, Eduardo. The Study of the Migrant Caravans in Mexico. Norteamérica [online]. 2022, vol.17, n.2, pp.67-89.  Epub Apr 28, 2023. ISSN 2448-7228.  https://doi.org/10.22201/cisan.24487228e.2022.2.525.

The aim of this work is to analyze some of the most important contributions to the study of migrant caravans. The author does a historic review of the different migrant caravans and analyzes four key discussions: 1) the caravans as a form of mobility; 2) as a social movement; 3) government actors’ politization of these marches; and 4) the caravans’ visibility in the media and on social media. He also underlines how these four issues can be strengthened by the study of new migrant caravans and a comparative analysis.

Keywords : international migrations; social movements; media visibility; racism on social media; migratory policies.
