Abstract

SCHIAVON, Jorge A.. How Should Migration Be Studied in the Meso-North American System?. Norteamérica [online]. 2022, vol.17, n.2, pp.171-190.  Epub Apr 28, 2023. ISSN 2448-7228.  https://doi.org/10.22201/cisan.24487228e.2022.2.585.

This article answers the question of how migration should be studied in the Meso-North American system. The author proposes five strategies for comprehensively understanding and analyzing migration: 1) Disaggregate the analysis into the five international components of migration (emigration, immigration, transit, return, and refuge); 2) Examine it regionally as a migratory system; 3) Study it from the point of view of multiple causes, organizing the variables in two categories (push and pull); 4) Look at it rationally as a phenomenon and not a problem; and, 5) Evaluate it identifying whether the “5 C’s” (coherence, consistency, coresponsibility, coordination, and cooperation) are being followed or not.

Keywords : migration; migratory phenomenon; Meso-North America; migratory systems.
