Abstract

URIOSTEGUI FLORES, Adrián. Conflictos en el empleo de medicina tradicional. Región y sociedad [online]. 2008, vol.20, n.43, pp.213-234. ISSN 2448-4849.

Biomedical practitioners in Taxco, Guerrero, have a conflictive and complementary relationship regarding the usage of traditional medicine and popular nosology. The situation is analyzed here, as well as the contribution of experiences with the implementation of traditional medicine programs, as well as opinions of traditional therapists facing the expansion of scientific medicine in the locality. The main findings demonstrate greater embracement and approval of traditional medicine on the part of the health personnel studied. In contrast, previous data also reflect how traditional therapists continue struggling against the techniques and biomedical ideology which are spread insistently among the population of Taxco.

Keywords : traditional medicine; popular nosology; confrontation; intercultural conflict.
