Abstract

MACIAS MACIAS, Alejandro. Mallas de valor global en la agricultura de hortalizas en México. El caso de Sayula, Jalisco. Región y sociedad [online]. 2009, vol.21, n.46, pp.113-144. ISSN 2448-4849.

Since the mid-1980s, the production of tomato, broccoli and other vegetables is an important activity in Sayula, Jalisco, which is framed in value grids where there are obvious offshore dynamics, such as the provision of consumables, production factors (including labor force), marketing and consumption involving multiple actors that are located in other territories. Those value grids are organized in different ways, depending on the relationships between producers and buyers, and according to the product characteristics, markets and players involved. This creates a variety of governance structures, which are studied here in order to understand the benefits and risks they provide to farmers.

Keywords : vegetable produce; value grids; governance structures; Sayula; offshore dynamics; Mexico.
