Abstract

FLORES XOLOCOTZI, Ramiro; GONZALEZ-GUILLEN, Manuel de J.  and  DE LOS SANTOS-POSADAS, Héctor Manuel. Valoración económica del servicio recreativo del parque Hundido de la Ciudad de México. Región y sociedad [online]. 2010, vol.22, n.47, pp.123-144. ISSN 2448-4849.

A contingent valuation study was carried out in the Parque Hundido in Mexico City.A scenario of willingness to make monetary contributions in order to avoid recreational service deterioration was considered. Schooling and monthly family income greater than 35,000 Mexican pesos showed a positive correlation with voluntary contributions. In addition, men contributed greater amounts than women. These results could reflect educational and social inequalities in Mexico; therefore, socioeconomic factors should be analyzed before interpreting the results literally. Perception variables such as the importance of conservation show the influence of ethical and moral attitudes on donations. Finally, a yearly recreational value of 34,551,396.00 Mexican pesos per hectare was obtained, which can be used in benefit-cost analysis and can be useful for the planning and conservation of urban parks.

Keywords : contingent valuation; recreation; environmental services; urban parks.
