Abstract

GARCIA VAZQUEZ, Alejandra et al. El mercado de la sandía en México: un estudio de caso sobre excesos de oferta y volatilidad de precios. Región y sociedad [online]. 2011, vol.23, n.52, pp.239-260. ISSN 2448-4849.

As a result of excess supply, watermelon producers face a price reduction problem in May, June, and July. With the objective of modeling supply control policies to improve profits, a linear programming model of the watermelon market in Mexico was formulated. Production planning is the best policy to increase profits; therefore, the promotion of a national organization of watermelon producers is recommended to stabilize the market.

Keywords : excess supply; prices; profits; market; linear programming model; consumption.
