Abstract

NUNEZ ESPINOZA, Juan Felipe. Patrones de organización social en la gestión de residuos sólidos urbanos en el continuo regional Distrito Federal-Estado de México. Región y sociedad [online]. 2016, vol.28, n.65, pp.187-233. ISSN 2448-4849.

This article identifies some of the patterns of social organization which are present in the social system responsible for the management of urban solid waste in Mexico's Distrito Federal and Estado de México. It was assumed that waste management allows the confluence of social relationships and is therefore susceptible to be mapped and analyzed using social network analysis. To do this, the municipal, business and civil society levels were all taken into account. The information used for analysis came from the municipal agencies responsible for environmental and sanitation services, as well as official statistics and specialized literature on the subject. It showed that there is a complex waste management system that includes feedback processes and different levels of organization and information that energize and innovate the system, but also fragment it. This causes decision-making to be limited given the magnitude of the situation.

Keywords : waste; society; management; organization; social network; system.
