Abstract
BORJA BRAVO, Mercedes; VELEZ IZQUIERDO, Alejandra and RAMOS GONZALEZ, José Luis. Differentiation and classification of guava (Psidium guajava l.) producers in Calvillo, Aguascalientes, Mexico. Región y sociedad [online]. 2018, vol.30, n.71. ISSN 2448-4849. https://doi.org/10.22198/rys.2018.71.a402.
This study presents the typology of guava producers in Calvillo, Aguascalientes, México, which was developed from information obtained from the 91 surveys applied to them. Through the cluster and discriminant analyses, three types of producers were established: traditional (54 percent), intermediate (34) and entrepreneurial (12 percent). Among the groups, there were seven variables with a greater discrimination power, but producers’ participation in the market was the most influential on differentiation (r2=0.48), followed by revenues for the sale of high-quality fruit and the orchard size. The proposed typification must be considered in designing public policies focused on the development of guava activity in the region.
