This paper analyzed the normalizing discourses regarding the control of the female body and its appropriation in corporal practices and models of young women from different social classes, in an urban context in northwestern Mexico. A qualitative socio-anthropological perspective was used and seven group interviews of women from lower, middle and upper classes were conducted. The normalizing discourse on the female body alludes both health care and/or against obesity and aesthetics. A slim, healthy, fit and beautiful body is recognized as the ideal one; however, corporal models differentiated by social class are valued. Practices are identified under the discourse on health, but with an esthetic motivation. A greater approaching to corporal experience of women, in a region where slimness is a social norm, although not always shared, and where corporal practices are increasingly invasive, is required.
