Abstract

FUENTES MALO, Sinue Hammed  and  CORAZA DE LOS SANTOS, Enrique. The Mam People of Soconusco. Memory Recovery and its Reality in the Face of the Mexicanization Process. Región y sociedad [online]. 2023, vol.35, e1760.  Epub Dec 04, 2023. ISSN 2448-4849.  https://doi.org/10.22198/rys2023/35/1760.

Objective: to analyze the memories of the members of the Mam people of Soconusco in relation to the process of Mexicanization in the municipalities of Cacahoatán, Tuxtla Chico, Huehuetán, Unión Juárez and Tapachula, Chiapas. Methodology: it is qualitative with a non-probabilistic sampling, based on memory studies and focused on interviews with self-referenced people as carriers of this culture using tools of the biographical method. Limitations: it is noted that the results correspond to the elements provided by the interviews, requiring other in-depth historical studies that emphasize other contemporary variables. Value: this text represents a contribution to regional historiography through a discussion of memories. Conclusions: Such memories point out how they refer to the historical relationship of the State with the Mam people and their interactions as a result of the Mexicanization process in Soconusco.

Keywords : Memory; reminiscence; mam; Mexicanization; Chiapas; Soconusco.
