We can place this paper in the realm of the discussion about the “person concept” in Mexico and Central America, and the importance to seek differences and resemblances amongst different groups of the region. In this respect it refers to the animic entity known among current tseltals of Oxchuc as lab, concept that will be confronted, on the one hand;, with ethnographic reports on the region written between 1940 and 1960, which reflect the significant changes occurred in the way tseltals perceive and live today’s world; and on the other, with contemporary ethnography from other tseltal “municipios” of the Chiapas Highland.
