Abstract

PORRAZ GOMEZ, Iván Francisco. And we went north! Aproaching the realities of youth migration from Chiapas to the United States. Rev. pueblos front. digit. [online]. 2013, vol.8, n.15, pp.92-114. ISSN 1870-4115.  https://doi.org/10.22201/cimsur.18704115e.2013.15.87.

In recent decades, the heterogeneity of migrant actorshas become evident. This demonstrates how the serious consequences of globalization have deepened differences, reducedthe quality of life or increased thedifficulties people face ona day to day basis in order to survive attheir place oforigin. In this article,I share the experience of some migrants from Chiapas in their journey towardthe so-called «Americanor gringo dream».Most of these migrants are young people who areinserting themselves into the internationallabormarket. I am interested in highlightingmigrant discourses whichdepicta self-definitionduringthe most significant moments and contexts of their insertion intothesemigratory flows. In other words, I approach the interpretation of theirstoriesand conclude with a brief reflection.
