Abstract

TIPA, Juris  and  VIERA, Merarit. Significations of Youth Through Music as a Leisure Experience In Two Border Contexts in Mexico. Rev. pueblos front. digit. [online]. 2016, vol.11, n.22, pp.43-67. ISSN 1870-4115.  https://doi.org/10.22201/cimsur.18704115e.2016.22.269.

Through the stories and narratives of young people in two different Mexican border contexts: Tijuana (Baja California), and San Cristóbal de Las Casas (Chiapas), this article attempts to describe and examine the sense and meaning of being young through leisure experiences associated with the production and consumption of music. This article is based on three reflexive dimensions: the first involves the theoretical construction of youth as a socially and historically contextualized analytical category; the second one involves the link between youth and leisure; finally, the third dimension focuses on music as a leisure experience among the young. This article reflects upon the notions of youth, focusing on understanding the heterogeneous realities of young people in Mexico.
