This research note describes the virtues and difficulties of using prosopography and social networking analysis as methodologies to study the political history of Chiapas during the nineteenth century. The text is part of the research process for the author’s PhD thesis, Privileged Chiapanecan: A Study of the Chiapanecan Political Elite, 1824-1835 (Los hombres de bien en Chiapas. Un estudio de la élite política chiapaneca, 1824-1835).
