Abstract

Using the quantitative analysis of court trials regarding confiscated merchandize along the border region between 1826 and 1842, this paper aims to demonstrate how two territories -Guatemala and Chiapas- that belonged to two different federations kept close commercial ties in spite of Chiapas having separated jurisdictionally from the former Captaincy General of Guatemala. This seeks to helps to understand the construction of the Chiapas-Guatemala border.
