Abstract

BALLINAS AQUINO, María Luisa. The Feast of the Flower Child: A Socio-Environmental Perspective Traversing Borders. Rev. pueblos front. digit. [online]. 2022, vol.17, e588.  Epub Mar 21, 2023. ISSN 1870-4115.  https://doi.org/10.22201/cimsur.18704115e.2022.v17.588.

This paper seeks to demonstrate the social, religious, and environmental implications of the feast of the Flower Child (festividad del Niño Florero) celebrated in the municipality of Acala, Chiapas State, using dynamics in which the signification processes of the territories emerge and make meaning of the feast. This is achieved through research that integrates a dialogic understanding of the physical and symbolic borders existing in living religiosity. The study was carried out through a triangulation process that considers: participant observation (2011-2014), interviews with leaders (2011-2012), and videographic material downloaded from the YouTube platform in June of 2021.

Keywords : living religiosity; physical borders; symbolic borders; Acala.
