Abstract

ZABALGOITIA HERRERA, Mauricio. Gender, Masculinities and Higher Education in Mexico. A State of Affairs. CPU-e. Rev. Investig. Educ [online]. 2019, n.29, pp.4-30.  Epub Oct 09, 2020. ISSN 1870-5308.

The starting point of this work is the interest in relations between higher education, gender, culture and historiography in Mexico. Its purpose is to show how it built a dynamic field of studies of masculinities, linked to higher education but in dialogue with culture and history. Under the form of a critical state of affairs it starts with a review of pioneering works on feminism and gender perspective with interest in higher education. Then it focuses on studies on gender, culture and historiography from which a broad idea of education is built. The circle closes with contributions from masculinities as cultural and historical expressions that derive in aspects of higher education. At the end, a field under construction stands out, which despite advances and results, must insist on the role of masculinities within processes of inequality, violence, injustice, among other gender issues.

Keywords : Gender; Masculinities; Higher Education; Culture; Historiography.
